My car turns off while driving!?

I have a 95 nissan maxima. My car randomly shuts off on stop lights or sometimes even when I would be slowing down my car the car would just die. Now I have changed the alternator, knock sensor, fuel pump, fuel filter and thr ECU, but still the same problem is occuring. My check engine light is on as well and after replcing the knock my mechanic cleared the codes and the light when off, after a bit driving around the light came back and the car started jerking and hestating and on the stop light it turned off, cleared the codes and happened again. Later on i got a new fuel pump and filter, but didn't work. Just recently got a new ECU(electronic control unit) and the car did the samething, but except this time the check light didn't come on. Need help plzz. I'm totaly pissed!|||failing CS sensor yes, the only other possibiltiy would be failing MAF

if it has one

the fuel smell is because it is injecting fuel but no spark to burn it

so it is flooding it

computers have an extremely uncommon failure rate

never suspect a failed ecm unless it is last resort|||You may have to pull the codes but... I had a car that did this and left no codes. It was the crankshaft position sensor that caused it.|||have you tried new plugs and wires? coil packs? distributor cap %26amp;button|||You were correct to change the fuel pump or the fuel filter. (Assuming that you trust the mechanic who did the work). Possibly an electrical short with the fuel injectors. Like a connection which gets loose enough to ground itself. You would have to go through that wiring harness and double check the connections. Including those to the engine's computer.

Do you have a heavy key chain? If so, limit the number of keys hanging off the chain, in case that is causing a problem with your ignition switch.

Do you purchase unbranded gas? That is, gas from a station which is not a major brand? If so, there may have too much ethanol in the gas mix. Engine gets hot -especially in the summer- and ethanol evaporates at a lower point than gas. So ethanol evaporates (is converted into a gas) and the fuel pump ceases to work.

Did you have the computer codes read with an OBD-II reader? This might give you some idea as to where to look for the problem.|||Car computers need a minimum of 11.5 or more volts to keep working....batteries run 12 volts when the engine is not running, and up to 14.5 volts when running... But if it drops to 11 volts, the car will die. The alternator keeps it at that or should..but if the battery is not holding charge, or you have a bad connection, it might not be charging.

Every time you start your car, you take a LOT of current out of the battery, and luckily it starts up and the alternator is supplying enough to keep the computer working. But it takes time for the current taken out, to be replaced. Starters take a lot more current in one start then a radio would in hours. So if the car is driven only a few blocks, and then turned off, the alternator does not have enough time to fully bring the battery back up to full charge. So you start it again, it drops lower...and the cycle keeps repeating....until the battery is too low to work right.

Try fully charging the battery....off the car or disconnect the cables and then charge it.... once it is fully charged, let it set a few hours...But check the voltage immediately after the charge...and check it again a few hours later....it should be close to the same....if it has dropped a lot, then the battery is bad.

If the battery is good, and the alternator seems to be (not all new ones are good), then it could be a bad connection, a ground not making up or something, that is not allowing the current to go to the battery from the alternator. If there is a separate voltage regulator, have it checked.

There are other reasons a car can die, but most are from sensors not working. These can be checked electronically, with a meter. A bad ignition coil, that gets hot and stops working...works okay when cold...is another possibility.

Hope you find the problem
