Car Stereo Problem - Sound loses volume, shuts down for a second, and then ramps up again?

I am attempting to fix my girlfriends car stereo. She has a 03 Toyota Corrolla, her friend installed a Blaupunkt cd player not sure the model I apologize, the problem is that you turn it on, and for a short while 10-15 minutes it run perfectly fine. Then the volume drops to a barley audible level, then the radio sounds like it clicks off for a second, and then is the voulme is extremely high. My one theory is that it may be that dirt has gotten in the inside, the unit did sit in a the trunk a while before it was installed. It interferes with the electronic field of the radio in the volume control, and shuts off due to a lack of a field, then shoots more power to it causing it be very loud, and then repeats that cycle till you turn it off.

Today I was going to try to get some non-conductive cleaner to open it and clean the head unit's insides. the second thing I was going to try is to is make sure all the wires are connected well.

Am I crazy, or does this sound ok?|||Hi

Is the unit new if so return it for a refund replacement..

If the sound dies then comes back loud it may be a cross wired on the speakers. Check to ake sure that the speakes are wired correctly.. Also check that the unit is wired correctly.. it could be pulling a lot of power .. over heating shutting down then restarting.. Could also be a short in the wiring....

But really it sounds like a faulty Unit.

Please post whether its just a problem when you se the Cd or if its the same with the radio.....

Also if CD does it do the same with all cds or certain ones... ( My cd player in the car had peoblems with a coupl of very lightly scratched CDs but was ok with badly scratched ones. )

I had to use one of those cd repair kits......|||most times i have seen this it is moisture on a circuit board
