After suddenly refusing to start my 9 month old scooter went in for repair. The workshop say that they believe it to be the Electronic Control Unit as one removed from a new bike cured the fault. It is now on order and they will have to check whether it is covered by guarantee.
At 9 months old I think it should be but can anyone say what the cost of one of these units is in the UK? They vary a lot from one brand to another.|||that should be covered under warranty. i believe SYM carries a 3 year warranty in UK, and while it doesn't cover the whole bike the entire three years, it certainly covers all of it for the first year, at least. i have no idea how much a piece like this would be,
i think you can rest easy about this. have you serviced your bike regularly with records of it? if so you're good to go. and even if not, don't let a warranty claim like this be denied. an electronic control unit isn't a serviceable part, its just supposed to work. so even if you were the sort to neglect your bike it should be covered. so they can't say "you missed an oil change / tune up" so its not covered. because then you would just say "wtf does that have to do with the electronic control unit!? show me where i neglected the servicing of the ECU!"
and they can't because it doesn't require servicing|||It should be under warranty. Most bikes have a 1 year warranty and the only things that aren't covered are the perishables ie: tires brake shoes or pads light bulbs oil and filters.
